Poppy Seed Test

Like a bit of a fool, I deleted images from this post while cleaning some of my Google+ photos. I will redo this experiment, and then delete this post.

I have heard that eating a poppy seed muffin can cause a person to test positive for opiates on a drug test. I have always been interested to see if this was true, so today I thought I would do that test.

I picked up a few drug tests, and a few muffins.

A one step drug test with four steps.

This is by no means a scientific test, so it can not conclude anything ether way this goes, I am doing it for fun. You can believe it if you want, or try it for yourself. I am uncertain how long it takes for poppy seeds, or any food, to be digested enough to be picked up by blood steams and actually make a difference in any readings, so I am going to be guessing.

08:00

I started with a test first thing in the morning, this was to make sure there was nothing causing a positive reading. This is my control.

I placed the test in my urine for a few seconds, allowed it to be absorbed, then I left the test for a few minutes for the lines to come stronger.

Tests on all panels are negative.

08:10

I ate my first poppy muffin.

09:00

Roughly an hour after doing the first test, I did another one.

The test line for opiates is extremely faint, but it is there (just). Compared to the first test it is non existent, although the test is a slightly different make. All the tests I got where in the same box, so I would not have knowingly bought different brands, or batches. I do not know how much difference this makes.

I ate another muffin. I will check again at about ten O'clock

10:00

The results from the ten O'clock test are just about exactly the same as the previous test. I still feel the results indicate positive for opiates.

The second two tests were the same, while the first one was a little different. I don't know how much difference this makes, but I do wish I had known that before I started so that my control could have been the same. While I am happy with the results, I might keep a test to do tomorrow morning, as a second control. That way I can have a control in the same type as the two tests.

The next day

Because I was not happy with the fact that the test I used for a control looked a little different I did another test. This was the same type as the ones I used for the second and third tests.

There is no doubt as to where or not the test line on the opiate test is viable.

In my mind this is a clear indication that eating a poppy seed muffin can make you test positive for opiates on a urine test. My methods where not 100% scientific, and I had nobody checking up on me, controlling the testing, and making sure I am actually taking photographs of the tests I am actually doing. This is enough evidence for myself to believe it, but I would rather tell anyone else who wants this information to do the tests themselves.

Feeling Nostalgic

I was browsing through Themes for Visual Studio on a website called Studio Styles and found a few based on the old Borland theme.
I am using one called Jo Resta's BlueLand.
It reminds me a bit of doing Turbo Pascal in High School.
